Upon receiving the award, Joe Duplantier expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you very much, it took us a long time to [get up here]. We were sitting over back there.” He continued, “We are extremely excited to receive this award. Performing at the Olympic ceremony with Marina [Viotti] and Victor [Le Masne] was a privilege, making this a great day for us. We dedicate this award to all bands pushing boundaries. Support your local artists and bands, as they inspire us to continue. Thank you very much.”
Gojira’s Grammy History:
Gojira has been nominated four times. Their initial nominations were in 2017 for Best Rock Album (“Magma”) and Best Metal Performance (“Silvera”), but Cage the Elephant and Megadeth won those awards. In 2021, they were nominated again for Best Metal Performance for “Amazonia,” but Dream Theater took the award for “The Alien.” With their Olympic performance, 2025 seemed destined to be Gojira’s year, and indeed it was.
Congratulations to Gojira for their achievement and for representing heavy metal on a global stage, a moment that will be cherished and remembered by fans worldwide.
